Pros and Cons

When moving back into our house, we decided to do hardwood throughout the entire upstairs. Spencer loves hardwood and I trusted his taste. So we went with it and there a definitely pros and cons to the wood planks. Here are some ideas I have on hardwood.

PROS: Pretty. Last Longer than carpet. Go with all colors. CLEANER (big one for me). I hear they are a lot easier to clean up children's throw up off of, big plus when you are a mother they tell me.

CONS: Loud. Really LOUD. When I wake up at 5:30 for clinicals, I have to prance around the house so I don't wake Spence up. They are not as easy to clean. I actually miss using a vacuum. Not as soft as carpet when you trip/fall, which obviously is not a problem for me, oh wait. Not as cozy as carpet. You have to buy area rugs, which I love, but they are not on the cheap list.

Despite the cons, I am learning to love them, and the cons are winning at this point. We'll see once I have little ninos running around.

Anyone disagree? Agree?

1. TEUXDEUX: This little gem of a website has become a necessity in my life. It helps me keep clean daily to-do lists that are easy to remove, cross-out, and add. I've set it as my homepage, so when I get on the computer I'm reminded that I should not waste hours on pinterest. It's free too. You'll become addicted.

2. HELLO, FLAWLESS: My sister introduced me to Benefit make-up a few years ago and I've been hooked ever since. Although I don't feel oh so flawless when I wear it, it helps. And is awesome. And you should try it.

3. ADOBE LIGHTROOM: This is heaven in a box. Before, I only used Adobe Photoshop CS when post-processing, but oh was I missing out! Lightroom is amazing. I love it for organizing my photos, sorting, making lighting adjustments, and converting files.

4. NORTH FACE DOWN: This is the best present I think I have ever received. I got it for Christmas 7 years ago and it is still in really good condition. (Spencer wishes he could say the same about his, he leaned against a fireplace and POOF! feathers were flying everywhere. Needless to say he doesn't like fireplaces or fire in general). Even though it is not exceptionally cute, who cares, it is the warmest coat to boot.

5. TOMATOES: Let's just say I may or may not eat 1-2 of these babies a day. I love them. Seriously a little concerned about how much I love them. Favorite food: HANDS down.

6. BROWN KRAFT PAPER: This is a staple around our place. It is so versatile. I never have to buy new wrapping paper for birthdays, christmas, or happy days. And whatever my ribbon stash contains at the time, it will always match with this neutral color. I love this stuff. I buy mine at the dollar store; however, I would like to get my hands on a roll this large.

I'll be the first to admit. I used to think Valentine's was pretty lame. I don't like when people feel obligated, especially to send flowers, chocolate, etc. But I've had a change of heart. There is something kind of sweet about making a homemade valentine or decorating little spaces in your house with hearts. I in fact, want to do a Valentine craft night. Nothing fancy, we could even cut out paper hearts.

We had such a great time celebrating the old man's birthday this past week. His mom made a delicious dinner for him and enjoyed some gifts. I blew up a big picture of him waterskiing this past summer, which he thought was pretty neat. I mean really, what guy doesn't want a picture of themselves doing something cool?

We are having another little birthday shindig for him tonight. I am making lemon shrimp pasta and cupcakes. We'll see how they both turn out. When I got married, I soon realized that Spencer's family celebrate their birthday is pretty much the whole month. So we might be having three more birthday dinners. Fine by me.

Sometimes when I hear stories about mother's who have lost their babies,

my heart aches for them.

I find myself thinking of how terrible that would be as a mother.

And then I remember how that is my Mom's story.

As if I've forgotten.

Never EVER have forgotten my sister.

But have forgotten that it is my mom's story, too.

And how sometimes when no one is around and she lies in bed.

Her heart must shed tears.

For her baby.

And then I love my mom a million times more for being so brave.

For being so courageous.

For giving so much of herself.

When in reality, a piece of heart is in heaven.

I have seen this idea on a few websites I enjoy and wanted to join in the movement.

Above are images that represent my goals for this new year.

I am currently getting this printed to hang on my fridge and made into bookmarks as little reminders.

I used to think new years goals were lame and people should not feel limited to starting goals

only at the beginning of a new year; however, I've had a change of heart.

Goals are such a worthy thing and what a perfect way to start a new year.

1. Go on more adventures. Even in my own neck of the woods.

2. Be positive. Life's stresses have a way of making me grouchy yet they are inevitable and

part of His plan so I have to get better with rolling with the punches.

3. Be healthy. Spiritually, mentally, physically healthy.

4. Say my morning prayers. I am the worst at my morning prayers.

5. Have friends over for dinner more often.

6. Be brave. I am strangely scared of my last semester because of the fear of the unknown after I graduate. However, fear needs to be replaced with faith. Be brave.

7. Build organization shelves. I love organizing. Deep cleaning, bleh.

8. Continue to design. Learn all that I can about graphic design.

9. Grow.

Soon after we got home from Florida the festivities continued. We spent a lot of time with both of our families, one of the beautiful perks of our parents living in the same town, and time with Papa Leo. We have watched a lot of movies, eaten one too many of Stacey's cherry-a-lets, and have had some quality reading time. I am going to have to put those running shoes Spencer gave me into good use. I didn't catch one photo on Christmas day, I was too busy enjoying it. Good thing I made up for that in Florida. Plans of skiing and continuing the said routine for the next week and a half of bliss until school begins.

All my bags aren't packed and I'm not ready to go.

Sitting here at night and everyone is asleep. I guess I am still on Idaho time. We are leaving Southern Florida tomorrow for home and not quite sure how I feel about it. It may come down to dragging me out of here like a three year old throwing a fit. It doesn't exactly feel like Christmas; however, I think the fact that I have been in a swimsuit 24/7 beats that feeling. It has been so rejuvenating being at the ocean. There is something about it that renews and clears the soul. I have begged Spencer several times if we can move to the ocean for a couple years while our future kids are young. I don't think I have him talked into it yet, I'll keep trying. I finally talked myself into bringing my camera on this trip and am so glad I did. It is really a catch 22. The camera is equivalent to lead and I worry about it like its my own precious child. It is. But the quality of the pictures are so much better than a point and shoot. Moral of the story, there is going to be a picture over kill from this trip in the near future. It has been glorious and lovely and everything in between.

First of all, I AM OBSESSED WITH THIS ALBUM.

I was talking to my mom yesterday about how our Christmas tree died but I didn't know if we'd get another due to time restraints. Apparently Spencer's parents had asked if he set up his tree yet and he told them the same thing.

So my mom asked me to leave my door unlocked while I went to church so she could stop by and borrow a glue gun.

Well sneaky Mama Kat and Stace, bought a tree, set it up, put all of the ornaments on, and left no trace.

When we came home, we walked in and were so surprised/happy/confused/grateful.

We are so so dang lucky to have such awesome moms. Sheesh.

Christmas Tree Hunting

The only type of hunting I ever agree to is Christmas Tree Hunting. We went with some friends on Saturday to cut down our beloved tree. We had so much fun even though Brynn and I thought we might need a couple toes amputated by the end. Leave it up to Spencer to ditch us for an hour and a half searching for the perfect tree. I love/despise that quality of his. We both found our perfectly unperfect trees. Brynn may have wiped out on the trail back and I may have fell down the mountain twice, but who's counting. The frostbite was worth it.

I set the trees up two days later and slaved away at putting all of the ornaments and lights on until the wee hours of the night. Right when I slipped into bed (Spencer was long gone) I heard a big crash. I knew EXACTLY what happened. It was a very distinct crashing of ornaments, water spilling, blah, blah, blah that I heard. I didn't know whether to use cry or stomp my feet. Wait, I think I did both. The ornaments are still on the floor broken. And I will eventually face the reality of it.

Okay. Just got our family pictures back from July. And it's kind of depressing. Not gonna lie. Now I don't think I look great by any means on the left, but I can see the difference.

I have lost 25 lbs. since then. I don't know how or when I ever gained that weight, but whoa!

It's crazy how different I feel. I remember feeling so overwhelmed at how much weight I had to lose. I thought I would never ever ever get there. But then I remember thinking, okay Molly, take one day at a time. Start today.

So I did. I work out 1.5-2 hours a day. Although it takes time, it is not a leisure activity, you have to make it a priority. I also have focused on eating natural foods. Meats included, because no one can make a chicken. That's my definition of natural. I do sometimes eat unnatural foods on the weekends, but overall I eat a lot healthier. I feel like I am feeding my body what Heavenly Father wants it to have. What it was intended to have. I am not only happier, but I feel like I have control. I think it makes me feel like I can be a better friend, wife, daughter, because I have the mental/physical energy to do so.

This is somewhat embarrassing to write about, but I can't take back the times when I have been uncomfortable in my skin, I just have to embrace them and learn how I want to treat my body. I used to want to work out to get 'skinnier' but now I have the desire to be 'healthier' and in doing so, will most likely be smaller. Gosh bodies are so.so. incredible. I best be taking care of it because I only get one!

Papa Leonard broke his foot last week.

Poor guy.

Gosh I hate when ANYTHING happens to him.

I just want to make everything better when it does.

But I can't.

I have spent a lot of time this past weekend with him.

We played four games of cribbage and he beat me every time.

He was loving it. Secretly, me too but I had to put my game face on.

I also made him Grandma's 'healthy cookies'.

He said he's been wanting them for seven years.

I love when Papa Leonard is happy.

Even if it means beating me.

I can't imagine my life without him.

He is not only the best grandpa anyone could ask for.

But he is the BEST friend.

One of the things I love most about yoga is how it remind me to be in the present.

I try and think about this phrase not only at yoga but throughout my day.

Half of my life I spend sitting wherever I am thinking about what needs to be done.

I tell you what. Its Draining with a capital D.

Since I've practiced doing this, I feel like I have been able to embrace the present.

I (you) live in such a fast pace world.

Always worried about where we are and where we need to go and how fast that transaction can happen.

But it is so worth it to really try and be in the present.

Yoga is rad. You should try it.

Also. You should try to 'be in the present'. I am.

Once there was a girl.

And she tried for the past couple of months to eat and drink all things natural.

Natural meaning foods that are natural.

Stuff only God can make.

For example:

Vegetables from a garden. Or store.

Chicken

Apples from an apple tree.

Water. Goodness she loves water.

Sometimes a diet coke (not natural), but naturally good.

And other such things.

She did not always do this perfectly. But she was close.

On the weekends she gave herself a little break.

But that was a-okay.

And she lived healthily ever after.

Well she felt a lot healthier anyways.

The man upstairs really does make the best food. And the most incredible part is.

Most of it was free thanks to the rain, seed, and soil.

She once heard a phrase.

As always, conference was sure a treat.

It's the best weekend where you can legitimately chill.

Sunday we did a little craftin' while watching conference.

I swear someone at my mom's house is always working on a project or crafting.

So I abandoned my homework and joined in.

Thanks to my lovely sisters at Navy Perl, they are always letting me use their fabric flowers for something.

I've made it a goal these past few months to be productive and make.things.happen.

I have found that I feel so much better and I have more energy than ever.

My life is a whirlwind at the moment, but at least its a productive whirlwind, right?

I was sitting at my Grandpa's computer with him the other day and started thumbing through some old pictures. He is so good about documenting pictures and having all of the old one scanned in so we all can enjoy them. At Christmas time, he will pull out discs of all these pictures and put them on his flat screen so we can watch a slideshow of them as we please. He always has Patsy Cline playing in the background too.

My Grandpa a.k.a. "grand-pappy" said in an Italian accent or "grand-papa" said in a british accent and I are really close. I clean his house once a week and stop by to visit in between. Before my Grandma died, Grandpa layed low and just observed. Since my Grandma passed away he has been somewhat forced to come out of his shell. Although I miss my Grandma like crazy, I am grateful that my Grandpa and I have gotten close. To this day he calls me "beep-beep" (because I was on a machine the first year of my life that would "beep" when I would stop breathing) or Molly Jo or Moll Jo or Mojo.

I would say twice a month we love to go through old pictures on the computer, especially of my Grandma. We always seem to end up looking at pictures of her. And then my Grandpa talks about how he misses his girl, and I talk about how much I miss Grandma. We usually get teary eyed but pretend neither of us are. And then move right along.

I am fascinated with old pictures. I think the most amazing thing about them is that none of them were post-processed, none of them were digital; therfore, they didn't get to go through and delete the ones they didn't like, and they are the real deal.

I absolutely love these pictures below that I found of my Grandma and Grandpa at Disneyworld, Florida, and the Bahamas. I was dying over how amazing the colors of them were. Enjoy.

p.s. my favorite picture is the one of my grandma in her swimsuit and head wrap. she was one stylish babe.

The time has come. I have the best brother in the world. He is one of the nicest AND biggest tease's I've ever met. He is such a good husband and dad. For three consecutive years, the Gucker's have held Gucker Girls weekend. I couldn't go last year and was sad. (Gucker is my husband's mother's maiden name, got it?). This year my sister Hailey and MamaKat came along for the ride. We had so much fun.

I think a few items of business need to be explained before the pictures are shared.

#1 Hailey let me do her hair. Everyone knows that if Molly is going to do your hair, it will not be public worthy. Because its usually just plain scary. Some say she ended up looking like La Roux. Another side note, I was not serious when doing her hair.

#2 Hailey is not naked in some of the shots behind the fur.

#3 I got blessed with some of the raddest (not a word) in-laws ever. Ever.

#4 Hailey is always a good time. Hilarity is had by all when she is around. AND, its funny how Hailey and my sister-in-law Beth are so much alike. I got hooked up.

#5 Lastly. Dear my gorgeous, smart, talented, beautiful, funny sisters (Hailey and Beth), Still love me after sharing these. K? K. Love, Your favorite little sister :)

We have been having so much fun lately. Any chance we are not working or doing our callings, we try to get to the lake. It's probably illegal how much fun we have had.

Monday night we had family home evening at the lake. Now that probably is illegal. Actually I don't think it is. We had a blast.

And one thing I know for sure. God is good. Look at the skies. I love where I live because of the amazing sunsets. Every direction I turned on Monday night the skies were gorgeous. There is without a doubt, beauty all around.

And while we're on the subject, I am an instagram-aholic too.

first and foremost.

i should probably be posting about my brothers 30th surprise party that was july 2 instead of the selected subject. but i am sure he doesn't read this, so we'll move on AND come back.

i am feeling very relieved to get this off my chest. but i ~~was~~ am a ribbon-holic. well anything to do with wrapping really. my sister drew my name for christmas and I asked for ribbon. the first thing i bought after the fire, ribbon. driving the lady last week at the D.I. crazy over my repetition of "oh my gosh, i'm dying over this ribbon", so worth it. actually she joined in the fun and found me a bunch of ribbon that was hidden. we shared a beautiful moment. this ribbon is unreal. i got all of it for a (drum roll) ............ $2.50. There was more, but I withheld. I don't know how old it is, I tried to find some dates but the only numbers I found were 611, 24688, and 79 cents. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think any of those are it. Anyway, it was a score.

Next on the list of my thrift extravaganza. The great eagle spirit. I found this gem and knew we were meant to be. However, I didn't know, just how fragile he was. As I was throwing sticks out of my car from the stick wreath, I picked up the eagle and chucked it on the lawn too. Only to watch it crush into a million pieces. Okay, not a million. But four!! His wings were snapped right off, and what's a bird to do if he doesn't have wings, if he was a penguin, sure, but not an eagle. I glued him back together and will soon paint him black to watch over and protect our office.

And next we have the one and only pencil cup, well that's what I am using it for. After gazing at it, I realized it can be used for more than just pencils or pens. Suggestions listed below. 50 cents. I have been looking for one of these for the past few weeks but the cheapest one i found was seven dollars and just plain boring.

Last but not least. Vasottles and apple strings. I don't know if what I bought are vases or bottles so I went with vasottles. Aren't they pretty? Christmas can't come soon enough. And a string of apples. No I am not a teacher and no I will not be making jewelry out of these. I just thought they were cute and I am thinking about making an abacus.

I am so happy our friends are back on American soil. I really missed my good friend Gudrun and have been lucky to spend a short amount of time with her this weekend. She is one of the most genuine, real, and funny people I know. Beautiful inside and out and so Lucky to know her. Isn't she just how you would picture a Norwegian? I think so.

Remember napping lou? Well this little miss visited us last week while here mama and daddy went on a trip to California. Miss Leni Jane's time was spent at my house or Mama Kat's. We had so much fun and spent most of our time swimming. One afternoon Napping Lou took a slumber on my bed with her Uncle "Pence". She slept a little longer than Uncle Pense which gave me just enough time to snag some photos of her. I think she looks so angelic when she's sleeping. Love that little Napping Lou.

4 eggs (lightly beaten)

1 c. flour

1 1/3 c. milk

2 Tbsp. sugar

1/2 tsp. salt

2 Tbsp. melted butter

This post is long overdue, but I am home and back in the swing of things until next week.

About a month and a half ago my mom rode in the a 100 mile bike ride for cancer.
She has ridden in it before but this time it meant a little more. She dedicated her ride to Aubrey.

My mom thought that only Carrie and Chase were going to be there, but Aubrey, Beck, Dawson, and I jumped in the car and surprised her at the finish line.

I love my Mama Kat. She is such an inspiration and example to me. I love her so so much.

I have so so so much I want to share. Seriously its killing me that I don't have enough time. My life has been a whirlwind, a good whirlwind, but a extremely, busy, fast, need 30 hours a day whirlwind. I'm sure I'm not the only one. Posts I want to share include my brothers 30th birthday party, my moms 100 mile race, ordinary life, and a new wedding gift idea.

I wish I would just slap the pictures on the blog of all these events, but something in my gut says they can't be until they are post-processed. It's an annoying habit (I think that's what you would call it) that I have.

On a future note!

I am leaving tomorrow for the American Society Cancer camp tomorrow for seven days. I am really looking forward to it. I am somewhat nervous too. I hope that for this one week I can help the kids to have a blast and to let all their worries be forgotten for just a moment. I really do hope that I will be a good camp counselor. I've made tons of decorations for cabin and gifts for the girls. Can't wait to meet them.

Tomorrow will mark fourteen crazy long/short years since my beautiful sister heather passed away. Gosh we really miss her around here. I am sad I am going to miss the annual Jenny Lake memorial hike for her, but I know she would be happy that I will be at Camp Rainbow Gold. Love you long time heath. XX

A little late.

We had a wonderful Fourth of July.

Like I've mentioned, I really really like this particular holiday.

I love the patriotism everyone shows for this blessed country.

Every single time I travel to different countries.

I ALWAYS gain a greater appreciation for my country.

Especially the safety I feel here.

I guess when I am not feeling super grateful for my country.

I'll just tell Spencer we need to go to the Caribbean :)

My peonies (my favorite flower) bloomed while I was out.

Spencer said I murdered the peony bush but I enjoy them more inside than out.

I've spent the past few days with the youth in my ward.

This past weekend we went to Island Park for a night with some dear friends.

We went out fishing on the lake the morning we left.

It was such a good time. Just what we needed.

Last night Spencer and I watched a movie my friend lent me called "If Only". I am sure some of you have seen it. I think Spencer did not really like it because the actors weren't the best. He's the worst movie critic, but I am not a movie critic at all. I like any and everything, and I rarely notice bad acting. Always a sucker for chick flicks. I particularly keen of the happy endings. Even though the movie was predictable, it had a really powerful message. And about half way through the movie, I cried for 1/2 of the last of the movie. Boom it hit me. I don't know why but the movie made me really, really miss my sister. I don't cry very often over missing her, I just like to have happy memories. But sometimes I get annoyed. Annoyed and angry that she isn't here. Annoyed that she died at 18. Because I know we would have been so close. I think we are a lot a like. People have told me that, but I just think of all the fun we could be having, and I get sad. Spencer first thought I was sad because of the movie, yes it was sad, but sometimes, usually the most random times, I miss her. I think it is okay to have times like these those. Because for some reason, it reassures your love for the person missed. It almost makes it feel real in such a surreal circumstance. I told Spencer that I just wanted to see her so bad. And he then said we get to be with her often. I asked what? where?. He said the temple. Which is so true. She is there. I feel closer to her when I go. Whether or not the movie was good. The message was good. And last night I hugged Spencer a little tighter. And sometimes it is good to be reminded, by cheesy actors nonetheless, to appreciate what you have.

On a lighter note. I made the little image above. I think it is a helpful reminder. Because usually when I forget the proper table etiquette, it is a time when I don't want to forget. You know what I mean?

Two posts today. Whew. I had a lot to catch up on.

But as I was leaving my desk to go do some work.

I glanced at this instrument that stands next to my computer.

And had some inspiration to do the above picture.

Three weeks after the house burnt, the restoration crew said they had found an instrument in the house.

They had given it to Spencer but did not tell him where they found it.

It must have been in a special spot.

It was in the heart of the fire though.

And it looks amazing.

We later found out that Spencer's Grandma had played this instrument.

I think it is so special that it was found. So long after the fire. And that it survived.

It still stands so poised.

Even after it was burned.

I think this instrument is so beautiful.

This is the definition of a treasure.

My mother in law is an amazing cook so we decided to try good ole macaroons.

We used Martha Stewart's French Macaroon Recipe and her Buttercream Swiss Meringue for the filling.

Three and a half hours later, it yielded about 30 little cookies.

Labor intensive, yes!

I made flour out of almonds.

After my arm about fell of grinding flour (I felt like I was in the 1500s)

We made it work.

Worth it, yes!

I thought they were better the second day.

The week before that.

I attempted some stain glass jello.

Hard, no.

Time consuming, yes.

Beck & Dawson were in love. So it was worth it.

It tasted surprisingly better than normal jello.

It must have been the sweetened condensed milk in the white filling.

I got the recipe off of Our Best Bites.

And.... One of my favorite songs at the moment.

I recommend listening to it. All of it. It won't disappoint.

When I was little I dreamt about how splendid it would be to play in the clouds.

The sky was so cute this day. Yes, cute! Clouds can be cute! Cumulus are the cutest in fact.

If you're wondering if I pulled off on the side of the freeway to take it, why yes, yes I did.

If you're wondering if I felt like a nerd telling them I was fine, I was just taking a picture of the clouds, why yes, yes I did.

But it was so worth it.

On a side note. I think craft night was a success!

Dear Beck & Dawson,

You two are my best buddies ever.

Over the past little while we have been spending more time than usual together,

as Mommy has been really sick.

Although I am so so sad that she is not well,

I am happy that we have been able to have some time together.

I had so much fun with you guys this day at the river.

You kept saying, "Let's go see the Wiv-er".

I don't think I have ever held your hands so tight as we looked off the bridge at the water.

Later we flew kites.

Beck, you first broke your kite. And then Dawson finished pulling the strings off.

I'll buy you another one if you want though.

the good and bad of yesterday. and memorial weekend.

Let's start with the bad:

I picked up a rock, turned out to be a dead mouse.

Sliced my finger while using the buzz sander.

Lost my softball game.

I was scared last night that the wind would take us away.

And the good:

I sanded and painted the pillars on the outside of our house.

I painted the mailbox.

Knocked some work out of the way.

Had a delicious healthy dinner.

The weather was warm.

Was barefoot 83% of the day.

And memorial weekend:

Leni & Spencer rode horses.

We hung out a Grandpas. And I ALWAYS admire his mantle. I think its the raddest. And his yard.

And we relaxed.

We visited Heath and Grandma at the cemetary. They are right next to each other partying it up.

I planned on doing some projects, like refinishing these frames, but chose to enjoy family instead.

I wore my comfiest dress ever. Spencer's calls it my Miss Lippy dress.

And... I wore my new shades. 12.99 baby.

Spencer read. Day in and day out. No surprises there.

We admired all of the flags and patriotism around town.

We got italian sodas.

And we drove around.

Twas a good weekend even though the weather gave the February vibe.
